Robert Montgomery delivers a noteworthy performance within this enjoyable fantasy narrative. He portrays a boxer, identified as "Joe," who is training with his coach, "Max" (played by James Gleason, often diverting attention), aiming for a shot at the championship. Unexpectedly, he finds himself in line to enter Heaven. Expressing disbelief, he questions the situation—and after some inquiry from the head administrator, “Jordan” (Claude Rains), it’s determined that he's arrived fifty years prematurely. The plan is to return him, but complications arise; his acquaintances had been overly eager with the cremation process, so a body isn't available. "Jordan" decides it would be best to locate an alternative vessel for him, and they select millionaire “Farnsworth.” This marks a challenging period for "Joe," particularly when his commitment to protecting smaller investors leads to conflict with the board and necessitates finding another "host." He’s growing weary of the situation, as is "Jordan"—what's the solution? The plot progresses in a pleasant and agreeable manner, with Montgomery and Rita Johnson, who plays the developing romantic interest “Julia,” forming a compatible pairing as the story picks up momentum. This is balanced by Claude Rains’ calmly restrained portrayal and Edward Everett Horton’s character, who serves as the origin of the initial troubles. It's Gleason’s actions later in the film that elicit laughter—a result of his astonishment and a saxophone solo. It’s definitely worth seeing.
