The opening credits, featuring the “Cannon” logo, should have served as a warning – because what followed was exactly as bad as one might anticipate. This film casts Lou Ferrigno in the role of Zeus’s divine offspring. I don't believe this task appeared among his legendary assignments, but he finds himself needing to team up with the formidable sorceress Circe (Mirella D’Angelo) to stop King Minos (William Berger, delivering a performance as stiff as any wooden horse) from conquering the world using robots powered by magic. These aren't the charming, animated creations of Ray Harryhausen; instead, they are menacing metal automatons intended to make him the supreme ruler. Adding to Ferrigno’s concerns is Minos’s intention to sacrifice his girlfriend Cassiopeia (Ingrid Anderson), which forces a sense of urgency. The script is awful, and the special effects are equally disappointing – Ferrigno's acting makes Steve Reeves seem like Laurence Olivier. I've seen many films in the "Peplum" genre, some truly dreadful, but this one easily fits within that category, far from being among the best examples. It attempts to emulate “Conan” (1982), but lacks almost everything that made it worthwhile. Simply put, it’s not enjoyable.
