While I respect Guillermo Del Toro’s abilities as a director, his films don't always resonate with me, and this reboot of Hellboy really highlighted what was missing from the 2004 version. The distinctive visual style that made the earlier film so appealing just wasn't there. What also felt absent was Ron Perlman’s captivating presence; David Harbour is a capable performer, but he couldn't quite capture that same charisma even with the faithful makeup and prosthetics. Ultimately, this movie felt visually uninspired and surprisingly lifeless, even when action sequences were unfolding. The runtime of two hours dragged on considerably, and I was glad to hear it didn’t do well in theaters.
