"Hellbound: Hellraiser II" manages to be entertaining, though it rapidly devolves into a chaotic and disorganized experience. Essentially, the film functions as an exploration of Clive Barker’s disturbed creative mind; it's difficult to imagine anyone genuinely believing this would make for a strong movie rather than something requiring psychological evaluation – and its biggest problem is that the special effects fail to live up to the demands of his bizarre and distinctive ideas. There’s also an over-the-top use of blood and gore seemingly just for shock value, and when you consider that much of it is completely unremarkable, what remains is a fairly standard splatter film with very little lasting effect.
