Stanley Baker delivers a superb performance in this drama. Fresh out of prison, "Tom" has difficulty securing employment until he finds himself at a haulage company managed by "Cartley" (William Hartnell), who prioritizes getting goods moved promptly over strict rules or past records. He becomes part of an unusual team and forms a friendship with "Gino" (Herbert Lom) while clashing with the supervisor, "Red" (Patrick McGoohan). The narrative progresses as he and “Red” find themselves in escalating competition that leads to dangerous situations. Cy Endfield and Geoffrey Unsworth collaborate effectively on an intense story featuring striking visuals centered around a rivalry that remains dynamic throughout much of the film's duration. Although there are moments where elements feel somewhat repeated, the pace maintains a sense of urgency, supported by a strong ensemble cast, leading up to an ending that feels appropriate and quite thrilling. It’s a raw production and definitely worth seeing.
