The movie Hector unfolds slowly and deliberately; those who need action or sensationalism will likely find themselves dozing off. The story centers on Hector, a man experiencing homelessness, though not in the stereotypical sense of living permanently on the streets. During the film's timeframe, he travels by foot and rideshare from Glasgow to London for a Christmas stay at a shelter—a yearly habit for him. It appears that an underlying medical issue motivates this journey, as he attempts to reconnect with his family members. They don’t seem pleased about it. Stephen Tompkinson portrays his brother with considerable frustration, while the actress playing his sister is familiar from shows like Vera; I particularly recall her performance as Irene in The Forsyth Saga. There's a strong group of performers involved. I occasionally struggled to hear what was being said, not because of the accents—which I’m accustomed to—but rather because he sometimes spoke so quietly that it almost sounded like mumbling. This may have been exacerbated by the late hour and lower volume at which I was watching. It's not something I feel compelled to view again, but seeing it once proved worthwhile.
