This movie felt like a single idea stretched too thin. I had hopes for 'Heavyweights', particularly given Ben Stiller’s involvement. However, it didn't really gain momentum once the initial premise wore off; the core concept seems to be that the characters are overweight, and not much else. It lacked substance, feeling pretty average overall. Stiller isn't particularly memorable either, portraying a character who resembles a less intense version of White Goodman, from 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story', which came out nine years later – I wonder if this Tony character served as an early model for White? The cast also includes two actors known from 'The Mighty Ducks' and recognizable faces like Jeffrey Tambor (as Maury) and Tim Blake Nelson (as Roger). I understand what they were going for, but the emotional point the film seems to be trying to make didn’t quite land. The conclusion felt tacked on and unnecessary, simply extending the length of the movie. It's not a bad film exactly; I just had higher expectations.
