Michael Mann’s "Heat" is a crime story inspired by the actions of Neil McCauley, a figure from actual events. While largely imagined, with characters and situations rooted in reality, Mann manages to set this crime drama apart from others of its kind. Robert De Niro portrays Neil McCauley, a seasoned criminal who’s adept at playing games with law enforcement. Following a robbery that turns into a shootout on the street, McCauley and his crew escape capture. Lieutenant Vincent Hanna, played by Al Pacino, is committed to apprehending them; he carefully examines the scene of the crime and quickly "Heat" establishes connections between the two main characters. Shot entirely in actual locations, “Heat” provides an intense and suspenseful experience that leaves viewers unsure of who to support as events unfold.
