Heat has rightfully earned its place among the best heist films and 90s action movies, though some shortcomings prevent it from rising higher in the rankings. There's so much that works well with this movie; I’m still amazed by the number of familiar actors appearing throughout. The action sequences are outstanding, particularly given how old the film is. The central shootout is incredibly intense and impactful. The plot kept me guessing about its resolution – would the detective succeed in capturing the criminal, or would the thief manage to escape? While it deserves recognition on lists of top heist and action films, I don't think it warrants as high a position as some rankings suggest. However, Heat isn’t without its problems. The conclusion felt rushed and left me wanting more. It also feels significantly longer than necessary, by at least 45 minutes. My biggest issue was Al Pacino’s acting; he seemed to be hamming it up so much that his character didn't quite fit the tone of the film. Everyone else delivered believable and serious portrayals, while Pacino appeared to be ranting about women’s bodies. I don’t understand what that was supposed to add. It is a worthwhile movie, but these weaknesses stop it from being truly exceptional.
