The city is on edge as it prepares for another Valentine's Day, given the killer's history of dramatically eliminating couples in past years. "Ally" (Olivia Holt) is already anxious because she’s working on a marketing campaign that she suspects her boss will dislike. Her morning takes an awkward turn with a clumsy encounter and a charming stranger at a coffee shop, setting the stage for what seems like a terrible day. Things get even more complicated when her boss, "Crystal" (Michaela Watkins), introduces “Jay” (Mason Gooding) to help fix things—the very man she had a run-in with earlier. He’s clever and polished, and Ally believes he's after her job. Meanwhile, the news is fueling public anxiety after discovering the killer has devised a gruesome new application for a wine press! "Jay" proposes dinner as a way to connect with Ally, but this only puts them in the sights of the villainous murderer who quickly shifts his focus to them. Despite their insistence that they barely know each other, it seems they are destined for trouble! I found myself really enjoying this film; it doesn’t attempt to be anything other than lighthearted and at times felt like an episode of “Scooby Doo” blended with "Halloween." The script has a good amount of sarcasm, there's some chemistry between the actors playing the leads, and the ending strongly suggests a follow-up—though not in a particularly frightening way. I’m unsure if it’s intended as a spoof, but scenes set at a drive-in movie theater hint at playful humor when a recyclable drinks straw is used in an unexpected fashion. It seems to be poking fun at how ridiculously cheesy Valentine's Day can be, and if you don't figure out who's behind everything within the first thirty minutes, then you need to study harder!
