It turned out to be a surprisingly good murder mystery, with Richard Basehart—who isn’t always the most engaging performer—playing a small-time criminal responsible for killing a police officer. The police chief assigns two detectives, portrayed by Scott Brady and James Cardwell, to find this person, which seems nearly impossible given that no one witnessed or heard anything related to the crime. They initially focus on likely individuals and slowly start to understand what happened, gradually uncovering the truth. The direction is consistently suspenseful, enhanced by Leonid Raab’s music and some atmospheric lighting; Crane Wilbur's adaptation of his own story adds a layer of intricacy, developing the investigator characters beyond what’s typical. While the resolution isn't entirely satisfying, it still provides about 80 minutes of enjoyable viewing.
