It’s interesting to revisit this movie after quite a while. It really is just a remarkably cool film. Gang Dong-Won looks great with that deliberately disheveled hairstyle, his very lean and physically frail physique, and the unsettling gaze he gives—not only when manipulating people's minds but also simply when observing or hunting down his victims or adversary. Go Soo does well in his role too. Although initially presented as somewhat naive, that characteristic seems to diminish a bit throughout the film for reasons I can’t quite pinpoint. Essentially, it follows these two men pursuing each other across the city, employing their unique abilities to try and defeat one another. The antagonist certainly isn't cautious and missed several chances to eliminate his opponent; otherwise, what kind of story would we have? One of the most frustrating yet admirable things about the film is that it never really explains exactly what’s happening, particularly with Kyu-Nam. He seems to recover remarkably fast from serious injuries and exhibits some unusual strength, along with an obvious resistance to mind control. The ending finally clarifies something's going on with him, and that’s when I started hoping a sequel would have been made. Perhaps it’s better left as is, though. There are a few things that don't quite add up. It states he needs to 'see' his victim to control them, but there are several scenes where he’s not even in the same room or can’t still see the people he’s influencing (like when driving). Maybe it's only necessary for him to initially make contact? I’m unsure. Their ability to locate each other also stretched believability a bit; it’s a large city. But the movie needs to keep progressing. Another thing that struck me was how, in the subway station, he’s lying on the ground bleeding profusely and people just walk past as if nothing is amiss. This isn't New York, you know (or at least that’s what I’ve heard about New York). You wouldn’t see something like that happen in a Seoul subway station, I imagine. And how did he reattach his leg so quickly? Despite these issues, it’s not a masterpiece, but an extremely enjoyable action film centered around superpowers, featuring strong performances across the board, dramatic moments with real repercussions, and solid character development so those consequences resonate. I'd rate it an 8 out of 10.
