The new *Haunted Mansion* movie doesn't seem concerned with creating a springboard for an entirely fresh series based on the Disney attraction. Rather, it successfully recreates the silly, pun-heavy atmosphere of the ride by letting its impressive actors have a genuinely good time. It’s an enjoyable film suitable for families that provides opportunities for each of the comedic performers to showcase their abilities and generate laughter. I went in with fairly limited hopes—particularly after experiencing the 2003 adaptation. However, I shouldn't have doubted Owen Wilson’s inherent appeal; his sweetly goofy behavior was part of a group of characters who consistently had me laughing. It’s hard for me to pick out a single favorite because they were all so amusing and entertaining. Even with all the silliness, LaKeith Stanfield delivers some truly touching and heartfelt scenes. I suspect that some negative reactions to *Haunted Mansion* arose from viewers anticipating something different: it's simply a lighthearted family film packed with witty remarks, puns, and familiar Disney qualities. Watching it brought back a sense of nostalgia, and I was pleasantly surprised by the occasional genuinely scary parts. *Haunted Mansion* isn’t attempting to be like *Pirates of the Caribbean*; its purpose is to entertain and startle you on occasion. And that's exactly what it does.
