A sense of discomfort was present from the beginning; those attempting playful disruptions often spoil the atmosphere, and something felt amiss even before stepping inside the haunted house. The intensity is increasing, the characters are experiencing genuine fear, and it seems everything has spiraled out of control, making escape an unlikely prospect. The violence is creative and darkly delightful, with a striking beauty in its gruesome nature. I’m finding myself increasingly drawn to this newer style of extreme horror, and I genuinely found this film to be entertaining and enjoyable.
