I went into _Hey! Jerry Lewis is funny right? How bad could this be?_ expecting something I might at least tolerate. It was truly awful. After just a quarter of an hour, I hadn’t laughed once. And I generally enjoy older comedies, particularly gentle and cheerful ones. This film, however, proved to be simply dreadful. The movie feels like a collection of poorly executed comedy bits, with Jerry Lewis repeatedly behaving in embarrassing ways. He plays an unemployed circus clown trying different jobs, all of which end badly—much like the film itself. It’s shockingly dated, and some aspects are deeply problematic. The production values were low, the acting was poor, and the writing wasn't good either. It's just plain awful. I would guess it might be the worst movie released in 1980, and that’s only my second review. Jerry Lewis clearly isn't as funny as he once was and seems unable to connect with the audience. Apparently, the producers initially planned to promote this film as a rival to Steve Martin’s _The Jerk_, even going so far as to use taglines like _The Original Jerk_. It's hard to fathom! _THE ORIGINAL JERK_!
