The character Mr. Angry manages to convey anger effectively. This is a true story. My social circle consists entirely of golfers, but golf isn’t really my thing. They kept urging me to try it, so I eventually gave in and played with them once. On one par 4 hole, instead of using a driver, I used a putter—just hit the ball hard straight toward the green—and managed to get a hole-in-one, much to my friends’ surprise! The reason that story connects with me is why I enjoyed *Happy Gilmore* so much; it playfully pokes fun at golf while suggesting anyone can play however they want. It's definitely not a sophisticated film, with a plot as silly as the premise—a hockey player who's struggling and angry decides to try golf to earn money for his grandmother’s house, which is in danger of foreclosure—and naturally becomes something of a sensation among the golfing establishment. Adam Sandler has always been a comedian you either like or don’t, so this one’s really geared toward his existing fan base. And truthfully, it's classic Sandler: loud and full of profanity. He did seem to grow as a filmmaker after this point, though. So what are you going to do? I found myself laughing a lot—I am a Sandler fan, even if there are some movies of his that I dislike—and sometimes that’s all I need from one of his films. 7/10
