Georges, an industrialist now using a wheelchair, seems to be facing his eighty-fifth birthday with little enthusiasm, having considered ending his own life and grown detached from those around him. His daughter Anne has been managing his business, while his son Thomas recently married Anaïs and started a family. He also has a teenage daughter, Eve, from a previous marriage that ended long ago; she’s now experiencing her own difficulties. There's a saying about how the first generation earns money, the second expands it, and the third spends it all – this seems to apply here because Pierre, Thomas’s wife’s son, shows no interest in continuing his mother’s work, preferring alcohol and causing considerable upset as a result. Eve watches everything unfold and feels neglected, unwanted, and bewildered by her father's unpredictable actions. They reside in a large house close to Calais and its refugee camp, which is fortunate because they have so many secrets and problems hidden away that it becomes challenging to determine who among them is the biggest liar, betrayer, or even murderer within this seemingly respectable group. I did find some of the situations felt somewhat forced, particularly the relationship between grandfather and granddaughter, and while Rogowski has a memorable disco scene, he isn’t given enough screen time to fully develop what appeared to be intended as an eccentric character. His role is the only one that tries to highlight the oddness of their luxurious lifestyle alongside the reality of refugees living in tents just a short distance away, but even that contrast isn't explored thoroughly. The ending felt logical from Georges’s point of view, and as a group effort, it’s decent enough; however, it doesn’t quite live up to its potential.
