Following an incident where astronauts believe they’ve collided with an unidentified flying object during a classified satellite launch, their claims are dismissed by those around them and official channels. The truth is that they were correct – when the White House Chief of Staff, Cain, portrayed by Robert Vaughn in a remarkably stiff performance, learns the spacecraft has touched down in Arizona, he instructs everyone to keep it quiet due to an upcoming election. Undeterred and frustrated by how they've been treated, astronauts Price, played by James Hampton, and Bancroft, acted by Gary Collins, find themselves involved in numerous car chases reminiscent of "The Dukes of Hazard" as they attempt to locate the missing vessel. Simultaneously, a group of scientists under the direction of Forbes, portrayed by Darren McGavin, uncover evidence that the ship carried passengers – those who have seen the head sculpture of Mentuemhat in Cairo will understand the appearance – and these visitors seem interested in Earth’s defenses and power sources; it seems an invasion might be on the horizon. The film's production values are rather simple, featuring repurposed kitchenware, sound effects similar to those from "Battlestar Galactica," and flashing lights, while the writing is somewhat cheesy. However, the movie does attempt to show how political considerations outweigh any potential scientific gains resulting from the discovery. It wasn’t a terrible film, but I can't genuinely suggest that anyone should watch it.
