“Handling the Undead” initially sparked my interest when I first heard about it; it’s a somber yet strangely lovely work. The opening section was particularly strong, featuring an evocative and captivating musical score that maintains its presence all the way through. The film concludes in a peculiar fashion, remaining unsettling even then. However, the central portion feels slow-paced, and the main characters behave with very little emotional depth, seeming almost as detached as the undead they encounter. I’m completely baffled by how they could have used Renate so poorly.
