I couldn't bring myself to complete Hamilton, and I didn't feel obligated to do so. Almost immediately, when the first lines were delivered—rapping about the Federalist Papers, no less—it was clear this wasn’t something I would enjoy. It seemed remarkable, certainly, but also draining. The experience felt like being forced to attend a gathering where everyone communicated in rhyming pairs and made allusions to the Constitution. It wasn't what I expected; it resembled “Founding Fathers: A Showcase of Skills” more than anything else. There’s an air of self-satisfaction throughout, a palpable "we're making history appealing!" attitude that only amplified my discomfort. It had the feel of a school play with extravagant funding. What makes Hamilton particularly disappointing is its appeal to a specific audience—those who consider it brilliant while others in attendance gradually become despondent.
