It’s technically a musical, and I suppose we could use another one, although there's not much reason to think this is particularly worthwhile. The roles are cast with different ethnicities than those they represent, apparently intended to be a positive thing, but the justification for that isn't obvious. What it amounts to is lacking in cleverness or any real understanding of the subject matter; it’s deeply disrespectful to historical accuracy. The only detail that seems correct is the fact that Hamilton served as Secretary of State. The opinions presented by Hamilton himself are unlike anything he actually expressed. If you're familiar with his writings, it's hard to believe this production draws any inspiration from the same Alexander Hamilton. *1776* took some historical liberties and got certain things wrong, but at least its central idea was correct and it had more elements right than wrong. This one doesn’t even attempt accuracy; it's a depiction of Hamilton created by people who seem completely unfamiliar with his economic policies or the foundations he built.
