Dark Jedi on Halloween II

1/10 · Mar 17, 2018

I'm struggling to understand what went wrong with this film. My initial reaction to the 2007 remake was positive; I thought it was acceptable and rated it 7 out of 10. However, this reboot is essentially dead as far as I’m concerned. If they decide to continue the series, a complete overhaul will be necessary because this version is beyond repair. The beginning, roughly the first twenty minutes, wasn't terrible. After that, though, it just fell apart. It seems Rob Zombie must have been under the influence of something when he wrote this mess. A large portion feels like a drug-fueled, bizarre experience. Debora Meyers comes across as an unpleasant and unlikeable person; she’s so awful you almost wish Michael would take her out. Dr. Loomis has been transformed into a truly despicable character. And Michael himself is mostly just a massive, filthy man who goes around killing people. He occasionally displays some of the supernatural abilities he's supposed to possess, but most of the time, he doesn’t. Plus, he grunts constantly—what the…? The dialogue disappears entirely if you take away all the cursing. I usually don’t mind strong language, but it feels excessive here; it seems like they’re using it to mask a lack of writing skill. I honestly can't recall being so let down by a movie in quite some time. This film is complete garbage and an insult to a horror franchise that I genuinely love. I will definitely think very carefully before watching anything else directed by Rob Zombie.
