Considering what happened at the end of the initial installment (from 1979), “Michael Myers” has become the most dangerous threat around—if you can even call him a critter. He hasn’t forgotten about “Laurie” (Jamie Lee Curtis), who is now recuperating in a nearby hospital. Fortunately for him, it's a dark and mostly deserted place where he can move freely and eliminate anyone who crosses his path. The only person offering any real chance of saving her seems to be the resolute doctor “Loomis” (Donald Pleasence), who has joined forces with the sheriff (Charles Cyphers) in an effort to stop this latest attack on her life. It's obvious that this new and improved version of “Myers” won’t back down, and ordinary weapons aren't going to be effective. The question is, how do you put a stop to him? The film begins well, but when the action shifts to the hospital setting, it felt too contrived for my taste. The atmosphere is conveniently dark and depressing; there are only a few employees on duty, allowing his rampage to continue unchecked while the previously vulnerable patient seems to gain some impressive survival abilities. It’s also fortunate that his adversary doesn't seem inclined to chase anyone, so she can always reach the elevator just in time or get to a nearby window, while he moves stiffly and mechanically attempting to stab her with whatever is at hand. The movie leans too much on trying to create a growing sense of danger, but it has such a predictable quality that I found it rather bland after about thirty minutes. JLC doesn’t have a significant presence, and the screaming primarily suggests there will be more films. It's acceptable enough to watch, though it lacks the unsettling feeling of the original, and most of his victims probably got what they deserved!
