This new “Halloween” film largely disregards everything after the initial installment, similar to how several Godzilla films have been handled. It’s an unusual tactic, and at least it erases "Halloween: Resurrection" from the timeline. I had hoped to enjoy this movie considerably more, as I'm a longtime admirer of John Carpenter's original, but ultimately I can only describe it as acceptable or middling. The beginning is quite effective, with a disturbing opening sequence and details like the credits mirroring the first film—the inclusion of "Halloween III" playing on television is a clever nod to how “Halloween III” was shown on TV in the earlier movie. However, some odd decisions are made, and it seems to lose focus as it goes along. Some characters feel poorly developed, their personalities shifting between confident and frightened. The younger character who appears destined to take over just doesn't quite measure up. And the conclusion feels rushed, leaving me feeling a bit unsatisfied and bringing back memories of “H20”. If you’re already invested in the franchise, it might be worth watching. Otherwise, you could end up disappointed.
