Following a phone call informing them their daughter was involved in a car crash, Maddie (Rosamund Pike) and her husband Frank (Matthew Rhys) set off toward the isolated location. The movie then follows the couple as they grapple with decisions, with the paramedic mother attempting to address the immediate crisis while the father considers longer-term sacrifices should things worsen. The situation escalates further when another pair arrives at the scene before them, leading the parents to worry that their assistance might only complicate matters. Confined within the confines of their vehicle and experiencing what felt like an unusually cautious journey to the accident site, we are presented with characters burdened by personal issues and a somewhat hazy understanding of what’s important. This superficiality and instability elevate it beyond a standard thriller, occasionally achieving a distinctive intensity reminiscent of a late-night radio drama—just two people and a script that becomes increasingly effective and frantic. Rhys' performance occasionally veers toward overacting, but Pike and the film's compelling rhythm offer something that explores what we might do for our children in an unconventional and realistic way. Its eighty-minute runtime helps maintain focus, and while it’s unlikely to linger long in your memory, it functions well when viewed on a large screen.
