The new movie from the Coen brothers arrived, and after waiting so long for their work, I have to say I’m somewhat let down. It wasn't unpleasant to watch; it’s one of those that you wish you could give a higher rating, but something keeps you back. After thinking about it, my dissatisfaction comes from the story itself. The writing was elaborate, the acting was exceptional, and the music, settings – everything really – was wonderful, yet the script felt directionless. It lacked a clear point at the start, the finish, or even in the middle, feeling more like a parody of filmmaking in the 1950s. Even with a less-than-stellar screenplay, the directors demonstrated their skill. The presentation is striking; fans of their previous work will likely appreciate it. However, I don’t believe all their followers will be completely satisfied. It's truly an ensemble piece, and everyone seemed to deliver their best performances in these throwback roles. If you talk about it with others who have seen the film, people might ask who was your favorite. Many would probably choose Josh Brolin, as he had a more prominent role compared to the rest of the cast. But George Clooney and Alden Ehrenreich also did well, along with Scarlett Johansson and Tilda Swinton. The other actors weren't bad either, but Jonah Hill felt like a miscast. Because it’s about the film industry and its people, expect some funny moments. There’s a lot of variety—different genres and themes, multiple layers to the story. It shifts from western settings to historical events, then turns into a musical number, and more. Its box office success relative to its budget was largely due to the star power involved and the filmmakers' established reputation. I just hope the Coen brothers return with something stronger soon and it doesn’t take another three years. It isn’t an award-winning film, simply a decent entertainment offering with commendable qualities. 6/10
