I initially experienced Hacksaw Ridge when it was released last November, attending a daytime showing that was surprisingly full. From beginning to end, I felt completely impressed; it’s genuinely one of the finest films I've encountered recently. The final half-hour really got to me, with tears streaming down my face. When the credits rolled, there was a five-minute standing ovation. Braveheart holds the spot as my most beloved film, and I’ve watched it well over 200 times, but this one might have taken its place. I've seen it six times so far, and I’ve been moved to tears each time; it's a deeply emotional experience. The account of Desmond Doss’s heroism is incredibly inspiring. My gratitude goes out to Mel Gibson and Desmond Doss Jr. for sharing more about this extraordinary individual. Hugo Weaving should have received an Oscar nomination. Andrew Garfield’s acting was phenomenal, and it also stands as Vince Vaughn's strongest performance. It was the best film of 2016.
