My appreciation for musicals seems to have lessened over time, or maybe my standards are higher now. This well-known musical didn’t really wow me. The performances were believable, and the story moved along at a good pace. But then there's the music. When characters break into song, you don't expect to be glad they stopped talking, do you? It wasn't even about the singers' abilities; I wouldn't claim to have a sophisticated understanding of music. The songs simply didn’t connect with me, and isn’t that a problem for a musical? Perhaps it's just my taste. Possibly listening to Sirius satellite too much has left me wanting something more immediately engaging.
