Following Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which proved to be quite disappointing, I was hesitant about seeing The Covenant. I’m glad I changed my mind though, because it's now among the films I've enjoyed most this year. The film is skillfully directed; the close-up photography and zooming techniques heighten the intensity considerably. The initial portion of the movie moved quickly, establishing characters effectively and building suspense. The action sequences were impressive and felt genuinely harsh, presenting a respectful depiction of the realities of the War in Afghanistan. However, the pace does decrease somewhat after that first section, with a noticeable slowdown lasting roughly 20 minutes. It wasn't bad, but it was something I observed. The acting was strong across the board, especially Dar Salim’s performance, which stood out significantly. His difficult trek through Afghanistan was intensely gripping and motivating—one of the most suspenseful experiences I’ve had watching a movie this year. Ultimately, The Covenant is a fairly direct war narrative distinguished by its impressive direction, performances, and visuals. It treats the subject matter with great sensitivity, portraying the landscape of Afghanistan in a manner unlike anything I've previously encountered. Score: 85% ✅ Verdict: Great
