I've been open about my thoughts on Samara Weaving, but I was still ready to see _Guns Akimbo_. I don’t think I made the wrong choice in doing so, though it didn't exactly impress me. I feel compelled to use a phrase that I haven’t used seriously for what feels like forever because I can't find another way to describe _Guns Akimbo_: It's just incredibly **tryhard**. The movie is so obviously attempting to be cool, in a manner that tries to copy things I genuinely enjoy but overreaches and fumbles the execution. I didn’t dislike it, not even close, but I was very conscious of what this film was aiming for; a more successful picture might have kept me engaged enough that I wouldn't have noticed. _Final rating:★★½ - It had elements that appealed to me, but they didn’t quite come together._
