It’s enjoyable, though I wouldn’t describe it as superior or inferior to the original Disney animated version—it is noticeably better than that studio's recent reimagining, at least. The strongest aspect of *Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio* is undoubtedly the stop-motion animation; it looks really good. Beyond that, nothing particularly stood out to me, even shortly after finishing it. I thought the design of the main character was merely acceptable, and the same could be said for Sebastian J. Cricket and his associates. I appreciated seeing Ewan McGregor and David Bradley in the cast, especially the latter’s performance. Christoph Waltz is adequate in his part. The film's more serious tone is a plus, but I don't believe it achieves the level of depth that seems to be its aim (for example, Cricket’s final line didn’t resonate with me as much as the movie appears to want it to). The music was acceptable, though not memorable. Ultimately, it’s watchable. I just didn't connect with the story and characters as strongly as I had hoped; the 1940 version handled things a bit better, if you know what I mean.
