This adaptation of the classic Pinocchio story uses beautiful stop-motion animation and incorporates some significant changes to the plot, resulting in a remake that feels more relatable, emotionally resonant, and thought-provoking than many previous versions. The conversations throughout the film about grief, affection, and striving to be our ideal selves add depth to what is essentially a journey of personal growth. The actors voicing the characters are excellent, and the original score successfully blends lightheartedness with poetic lyrics. It seems that Guillermo del Toro consistently delivers quality work.
