It’s an enjoyable movie. *Greyfriars Bobby: The True Story of a Dog* provides a pleasant viewing experience. The Skye Terrier at the center of the film is undeniably charming, and it's clear that the dog received considerable training; I found myself connecting with its portrayed emotions on several occasions. The length, just 87 minutes, feels well-managed. The actors aren’t particularly remarkable, but everyone in the important roles delivers performances that I valued. Laurence Naismith is especially good as Mr. Traill. Donald Crisp also does a commendable job playing James Brown. There's a sense of repetition during the central portion of the film, with some scenes and actions of the dog being repeated. The characters also come across as somewhat basic; it didn’t bother me too much, but I did notice it. It has a sincere quality to it, even though the tone is more mature than you'd typically expect from a Disney animal story—which I consider a good thing. It’s worth seeing!
