It’s true that *Green Lantern* is a really bad movie. I was already aware of its poor reputation—I’d heard about it over the years and seen Ryan Reynolds himself joke about this 2011 film. And now, having watched it, I can definitely understand why. Initially, I questioned whether it could be as awful as people said, but it absolutely is! Reynolds' acting isn’t great; it seems he was still in his rom-com phase rather than the *Deadpool* era. It’s funny to think that if this had been released after Wade Wilson, even with everything else remaining the same, it might have actually worked out okay. Or maybe I’m overstating things. Blake Lively is fine as Carol Ferris (I'm happy she and Reynolds got something positive out of it), and Mark Strong is perfectly acceptable in a role that feels very typical for him. Peter Sarsgaard, who was excellent in 2005’s *Flightplan*, is disappointing as an admittedly weak character. Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins feel like they were misused, and Taika Waititi appears almost unrecognizable—he really concealed his accent well! I'm somewhat surprised (but also relieved) that this didn't prevent Ryan Reynolds from eventually playing Deadpool. Fortunately for him, it’s just a late-blooming source of humor in his filmography.
