This stage musical didn’t appeal to me much, and I struggle to find anything positive to say about it. The story revolves around four women who win a contest for tickets to a Take That reunion concert. These friends have drifted apart over time, but the prize gives them an opportunity to reconnect. Things seem promising at first—each has achieved different levels of success and contentment as adults—but after some fairly standard incidents, old problems surface, and a past tragedy emerges to explain why they’ve grown distant and their current relationship feels awkward. The songs weren't particularly enjoyable for me either; I’ve always thought Gary Barlow’s voice sounded nasal and lacked emotion, and here they are performed with very stiff (and not at all organic) dancing by five men who don’t look anything like the original band members. Dedicated fans will likely enjoy it, and it does serve as a reminder of how many popular songs this group produced during their brief time together—but I found the film overly structured, capped off with an ending that brought to mind the much better musical adaptation of "Scrooge" from 1970.
