Grease is truly something special! When my family—my mom, my brother, and myself—were having our usual weekly "Movie Date Night," “Thank God It’s Friday” was playing at the State and Lake Theater just across from the Chicago Theatre. Since I'm a huge Donna Summer fan, I really wanted to see "TGIF" too, but we had to watch Grease first because we’d already bought our tickets in advance...and we usually only committed to seeing one movie at a time…most of the time. 😊 I’m so happy we saw Grease, though, because I absolutely loved it by the end. It's one of my most treasured childhood memories, and it still means a lot to me today. This musical from Randal Kleiser is considered an amazing film achievement—even now, it’s being adapted for stage productions and continues to entertain audiences both old and new. In Grease, John Travolta (a total heartthrob) and Olivia Newton-John (my favorite) play Danny and Sandy, who meet one summer at the beach and fall deeply in love. But there's a catch: Danny is a local guy (and part of the 'T-birds greaser gang'), while Sandy is from Australia and just visiting for the summer. When their vacation ends, their new romance might also have to end. But will it?... Set in 1950s California, Grease deserves its place in Hollywood film history. It's wonderfully directed, with a fantastic soundtrack. And the cast? What can you say when you’ve got such a talented group of supporting actors: Stockard Channing, Frankie Avalon, Eve Arden, Joan Blondell, Sha-Na-Na, Sid Caesar, and Alice Ghostley, among many other skilled performers. Grease is one of my all-time favorites. The story is excellent, as are the iconic performances, and the soundtrack is legendary. I really love this movie, and I suggest everyone check it out...particularly those of you who, like me, enjoy musicals.
