It’s remarkable how well this small crime film has aged, even though it faded from view after 1967 – it deserves to be remembered. Edward G. Robinson plays Anders, an ex-professor who brings together an unlikely group of people to pull off a seemingly impossible robbery: stealing $10 million in diamonds from a vault considered impenetrable. The care he puts into the planning is reminiscent of "The League of Gentlemen," paying attention to every detail concerning the security measures protecting the jewels, and this part of the story unfolds with suspense. Like many heist movies, however, the narrative loses momentum after the crime itself, and the resolution felt somewhat foreseeable. Klaus Kinski, Robert Hoffman, and Janet Leigh, portraying a deceptive character named "Mary Ann," all deliver solid performances, and the creative use of shaving foam helps maintain a brisk pace, making it considerably better than most films in the genre. The musical score is distracting, and some lines could have been improved with tighter writing, but overall it's visually appealing and entertaining, which I found to be quite pleasurable.
