Giving birth is brutal, honestly! I know what you’re thinking: another scary movie about kids? But Paul Solet's film feels surprisingly original; it’s deeply disturbing and layered with emotion, almost pushing the boundaries of how much we can feel for others. Jordan Ladd portrays the mother, repeatedly facing devastating losses. Her resolve is severely challenged when a car accident takes her husband and seemingly results in a stillborn baby. Despite this, she's set on carrying it to term, and through sheer force of will, brings the child back to life, creating Grace, considered a miracle. From there, we witness the breakdown of Ladd’s character and those close to her. The film explores grief with considerable weight and depth, also acknowledging postpartum depression. The horror aspects are intense; baby Grace seems hungry for something beyond nourishment, and Solet's deliberate pacing builds up to a final section that is genuinely devastating. The acting is excellent, particularly Ladd’s dedicated performance, while the other technical elements firmly place this film among the best in its horror category. It earns an 8.5/10.
