The premise involves a girl confined to her home with a father who exhibits psychopathic tendencies. As someone raised in Britain, I’m not acquainted with Goosebumps, whether it be the books or the television show—I went into this film without any prior knowledge. Because of that, my assessment might not resonate with those familiar with the source material. My intention was to simply enjoy myself, as the idea seemed appealing, and I'm a fan of Jack Black’s work. I anticipated it would be well-made and full of modern special effects (it’s funny, actually, I watched Jason and the Argonauts beforehand—quite a contrast!). I received exactly what I was looking for and had a good time despite lacking any background understanding. There are questions that could be raised if I were inclined to look deeper, but it doesn't seem necessary. I walked out of the theater feeling satisfied, as someone who appreciates movies. I’d definitely want to see another installment if one is made. It didn’t really address my fear of automatons, though. My rating is 6.5/10.
