_Goodnight Mommy _(2022) possesses the basic framework of a disturbing and unsettling psychological horror film, but it’s been altered so drastically that it feels like a distorted imitation of itself. It's become something so misshapen and strange that it barely resembles what it could have been. If the original _Goodnight Mommy_ is comparable to Patrick Bateman from _American Psycho_, then this remake is akin to the facial mask he removes and discards; it serves to highlight the value of the original but is ultimately unnecessary and forgettable.
