This is a lovely and understated movie concerning the decline of an empire and a bygone period characterized by courtesy and politeness that no longer exists. Robert Donat consistently embodied the ideal Englishman—though occasionally his portrayal felt somewhat rigid; and Greer Garson’s elegant depiction of a woman from that time evokes a pleasant sentiment. It doesn't actively champion gender equality, but the "Blue Danube" sequence is undeniably one of the most romantic moments in cinematic history.
