Reno on Good Kids

6/10 · Jul 30, 2017

This movie reminded me of the British film 'Kids in Love.' It approaches its subject matter purely through humor. The story centers on four friends who’ve always been exemplary individuals; as summer arrives before they leave for college, they resolve to experience everything they feel they've missed up until that point. They want to fit in with their peers, but it turns out to be more complicated than anticipated. Occasionally, events escalate beyond control and some of the characters face difficulties from the outset. Ultimately, the film depicts how their summer concludes, illustrating what they’ve both gained and lost along the way. The movie was written and directed by someone relatively new to the field, and it's a commendable effort. There are genuinely funny moments and the actors deliver solid performances. The four main characters each have distinct personalities, and the narrative surrounding them is well-constructed. However, not all of them receive equal attention; Nicolas Braun and Zoey seem to be the primary focus. I got the impression that some scenes were deliberately staged, but it was still interesting to see. It’s somewhat predictable, resembling many other Hollywood movies about teenagers. There are moments when certain developments exceed expectations. While perhaps not the greatest film in its genre, it's still worth seeing. _6/10_
