While *Golden Years* has some unevenness, it’s generally an amusing experience with a promising idea at its heart. There are several issues with the film’s construction; much of it feels rushed or poorly thought out. The characters behave oddly and the storyline is disjointed at times, particularly as it approaches the end. It seems like there's an attempt to abruptly connect elements while also trying to appear more witty than the material warrants. Despite these shortcomings, I have to admit that it does provide a level of enjoyment. The performers are strong overall, with Bernard Hill and Simon Callow being especially memorable in their roles. Brad Moore’s portrayal of Stringer is an exception; he doesn't contribute anything meaningful despite his importance to the story. The script is unremarkable and occasionally clumsy, specifically when it comes to the lines delivered. Nevertheless, I did find myself entertained while watching it. If you aren’t looking for something profound, although that can be challenging given moments where the filmmakers seem to think they're being clever, then you should have a pleasant time.
