This was an enjoyable spin on the Godzilla story. Matthew Broderick portraying "the worm guy" and Jean Reno as the French intelligence operative give performances that are easy to appreciate while they look into unusual radioactive shipments and some enormous footprints. The special effects work well enough, too, and manage to support this admittedly lengthy film. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin have a knack for producing these adventure movies – they aren't exceptional, but typically they progress at a good pace and provide entertainment; the final thirty minutes are particularly enjoyable, especially if you can see it in a theater.
