I found myself appreciating this energetic film featuring Buster Keating, though I felt it occasionally lacked a certain boldness. He appears isolated as he navigates difficulties adjusting to his surroundings. There’s no employment available, and he isn't actively pushing people away either. New York! Surely there must be chances there? Perhaps, but he dislikes the city, and it seems equally indifferent to him. What about the “Wild West”? However, he doesn’t get far before falling off a train – landing directly into his own rather humorous digital mess. It's actually cow manure! He may have stumbled upon his genuine calling—even if unintentionally—and much to the dismay of nearly everyone at the "Diamond Bar Ranch." The story unfolds in ways that mirror everyday experiences, not only for this unfortunate character but also for the town still under the rancher’s control – Howard Truesdale, who has a daughter (Kathleen Myers) with whom, predictably, things proceed as expected. The film moves quickly and skillfully weaves together elements of city life alongside its rural counterpart in an amusing fashion. A few title cards appear, but they're mostly unnecessary for a narrative that relies on some physical comedy, primarily on the expressions of a character actor who portrays someone out of place with remarkable accuracy—someone we tend to laugh along with rather than ridicule. It’s enjoyable; it gently satirizes traditional cowboy masculinity and provides an easygoing hour of entertainment.
