A somber, darkly comedic werewolf movie set in the Toronto area features Katharine Isabelle. Two sisters with a goth aesthetic feel like outsiders at their school and are preoccupied with morbid subjects. Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) is portrayed as attractive and direct, while Brigette (Emily Perkins) is shy. After Ginger is bitten by a werewolf, she gradually transforms, which dramatically alters the sisters' existence. Kris Lemche and Jesse Moss appear as the boys in the girls’ lives, and Mimi Rogers takes on the role of their seemingly unaware mother. "Ginger Snaps," released in 2000, unfolds during autumn, creating an atmosphere of gloominess alongside frequent uses of profanity—primarily from Ginger—and a touch of dark humor. The carefree nature of the mother provides some amusement. While there are parallels to “The Rage: Carrie 2” (1999), it doesn't reach that film’s level of impact. The initial premise is promising, but the narrative loses momentum and the suburban settings feel flat. Katharine Isabelle carries much of the movie’s appeal, although Perkins’ character proves somewhat compelling. Lemche’s portrayal of Sam stands out as a surprisingly honorable drug user.
