_Gifted_ is a 2017 film featuring Chris Evans, Mckenna Grace, and Octavia Spencer; it’s a genuinely heartwarming movie about Mary and her Uncle Frank, who live together following the death of Mary's mother. What sets Mary apart is that she’s exceptionally bright—a mathematical prodigy at just seven years old. Frank tries to ensure she has a typical childhood, while others believe her abilities should be fully developed. It was such an enjoyable film; I would have to be dishonest if I didn’t admit there were moments that brought tears to my eyes. Mckenna Grace is completely delightful and delivers a remarkable performance. The rapport between her and Evans was truly wonderful—it's the bond they share, along with their connection to Spencer, that makes watching this movie so pleasant. There’s one scene in particular during sunset where Grace playfully climbs all over Evans while peppering him with questions, as children often do, and it felt incredibly authentic and a joy to witness. This is a truly excellent film, and although family stories aren't exactly groundbreaking, there was something exceptionally pleasing about this one. The drama is balanced by some humorous instances, just enough to relieve the tension appropriately. Octavia Spencer has always been an actress I’ve admired, and she’s terrific here, but what I appreciated most was seeing Evans in a role outside of Captain America. I wasn't particularly impressed with _Knives Out_, so it was nice to see him tackle some serious dramatic acting. I found this very enjoyable, and given everything that is happening currently, the story left me feeling happy.
