The film really needed more Ghoulies! If a movie’s promotional art features a monster emerging from a toilet, the film itself should deliver on that promise. It's a basic storytelling principle – if you introduce something like that, it needs to be used. I spent the entire runtime hoping for a ghoulie to appear in a toilet, and that didn't happen at all. Beyond that, this movie isn’t very good. The lead actor has strangely luminous green eyes that glow whenever he supposedly “invokes” them—though it’s unclear why, as there's no explanation for it, and they just appear when his character is trying to look intimidating. I also couldn’t figure out the reason behind everyone wearing sunglasses near the film’s conclusion; if he could switch off those odd green eyes whenever he chose, he wouldn’t need them to block the sunlight. I didn't understand why the main character felt compelled to drop out of school in order to tidy up a house. It seems much simpler to just do it after classes! The logic behind that decision was baffling. The acting throughout is generally quite poor. There's a female supporting actress who appears to be in her fifties, though her actual age hasn’t seemed to catch up with that impression yet. The ghoulies themselves were the highlight of the film, but they only appear for roughly ten minutes out of its total length. There are also these two dwarves who suddenly show up seemingly just so they could drink something and fight against their original master—or maybe not?
