This movie wasn't bad at all. The child actors performed admirably. The special effects felt like something straight out of the earlier installments—a really smart choice, it looks like they used the same company or style. And the plot itself seemed to work pretty well. My own thoughts (spoiler alert): I would have liked to see the kids capture more ghosts. A short sequence showing what the original Ghostbusters were doing now would’ve been great while introducing that. Instead, Dan Aykroyd's Ray character just explained it over the phone. It might have been better if a montage had appeared, prompting the originals to realize what was happening and come help out. Or perhaps Paul Rudd’s character, the kids’ teacher, could have tried to locate them. Basically, I felt there wasn't enough action. The female lead seemed a little too overly intelligent and sarcastic for my taste, though that might just be Hollywood’s tendency to force identity politics onto established series, which colored my perception of her. I was also hoping Slimer would make an appearance—I was a big fan of the cartoon when I was younger. Overall, they did a commendable job with the film and paying tribute to Harold Ramis after his death. Despite what I wanted to see, it’s a really good movie for people of all ages. I'd rate it 3.75/5.
