Around the time Ray Kurzweil was discussing his ideas about a “Singularity”—a point where humanity and computers completely combine—it seems like his forecasts regarding artificial intelligence are just starting to become reality. I recently got around to watching this 1995 film, which is the original *Ghost In The Shell*. Mamoru Oshii’s work, adapted from a manga by Shirow Masamune, aligns with Singularity theory and feels surprisingly forward-thinking. This movie was among the first to tackle the difficult question of "what does it mean to be conscious?" when considering AI.
